Making It In Mining - Page 3 of 3

That used to be the methodology of juniors. Were they also drilling companies? No. Most used established contractors with proven track records, instead of the nightmare of buying equipment for a one-time thing, and hiring a pick-up crew for a month or so at a time.

Turnkey drilling professionals are used to bidding on consulting geologists' reports. The better the reputation of the geologist's name, the more likely the project will come in, on time, as bid. Thus what is really needed is a good business sense about people.

If the hiring company is a "non-professional" junior, there is the advantage that you could ask stupid questions to evaluate how they were answered. Wouldn't that have been something to do a year ago to query the management of Enron, WorldCom, and Etc, etc.? "Excuse the stupid question your most exalted worship, but what is a "shadow" company?"

At the very least, think of the fun word play your group could have tossing about the locker room of the golf club. "Yes, we are "rock stars," making money the old fashioned-way—digging for it."

To immature? How about the more dignified—"Mining is the true creation of wealth— if it isn't grown, it is mined! Mining is mans oldest industrial occupation; the building blocks (as the Bronze Age) of civilization. As metal is not a renewable resource, there is no alternative to continuing on in minerals exploration. The majors have not done so for many years, so it was left to those of us still willing to risk, providing we can manage our own destiny!"
