An Updated Message From Poor Richard - Page 1 of 7

I appreciate that my close friend and Editor Keyser Soze has offered me these pages to, as he says, it to sharpen my tongue and, “Sir, have at it in your usual to the point, style.” Not too many people know I am still alive, having gone to prospect in Alaska, being one of the last truly American things to do.

The irony of my situation today is that I am on record in favor of paper currency. I felt way back then, as we did not have a mining industry then to supply us with the copper needed to make pennies to save, “that a lack of enough currency causes interest rates to rise, keeps wages low, and increases our dependence on imports.”

What a punishment it is for me to be on a piece of paper representing what used to be a lot of money, where it takes three “Ben Franklins” today to buy enough copper to make $100 in pennies.

What a slur it was to have my “thrifty” name used on savings and loan corporations to corrupt the housing market, and elected representatives, to the chaos where it is today.

You also know that I had some silly ideas that Americans should not be, “tenants and vassals.” That, “good sense in avoiding sudden schemes of sudden wealth in favor of slow and steady diligence is the true way to wealth.” And, that, “The riches of a country are to be valued by the quantity of labor of itís inhabitants.”
